Ideas for changing Cinderella

I am thinking of basing my plot on a spin off of the Grimm fairy tale Cinderella. This is my planning for the plot of Cinderella in case I forget it..

Current Residence: 65 Marnui Ave, Southport, QLD, Australia
Occupation: Homicide Detective
Talents/Skills: Fast with maths, black belt in Karate

Physical Characteristics:

Height: 170cm
Weight: 57kg
Race: White European
Skin Colour: White slight tan
Eye Colour: Hazel
Glasses/Contact Lenses: None
Hair Colour: Brown
Facial Shape: Heart
Distinguishing Features:
Style (Elegant, shabby etc): Official (knows she’s in charge), yet is able to slag her shoulders around friends or people she knows that they know that she will smash them at anything
Dress/Clothing: Tight and black or shades of grey
Mannerisms: bounces right knee when waiting or nervous
Hobbies: Reading crime novels by Lisa Gardner. Going for long runs. Watching TV show “Castle”
Favourite Sayings: (Dylan) “Curiosity killed the cat” (Katherine) “But satisfaction brought it back” with friend dylan
Speech Patterns: (straight to the point, long winded) When she knows the answer, she likes toying with other people by holding the answer back. However when someone is telling her something and talking a long time, she acts amused and just waits till they are done.

Emotional Characteristics

Strengths: She knows what to say and sometimes when not to talk to you. She can take a laugh and can let you say what you want to say.
Weaknesses: When she is training because someone is better than her, you cannot talk or interact with her properly because she will just shut you down
What motivates this character? The knowing that she will be better and “safer” (better means safer to her). Also proving a point is common
What frightens this character? Being beaten and feeling week (which then makes her feel even more week)
What makes this character happy? The ‘chase’ and fight when she knows what they are going to do next and just enjoys the fight.
Introvert or Extrovert: Extrovert
What is this Character’s Goal? To catch the bad guy and be back in time for “Castle”

Intellectual/Mental/Personality Attributes and Attitudes

Educational Background: Went to St Hilda’s throughout but in year 11 she got bet up badly (broken arm and lots of blood) by some friends of her brother. Feeling week and with a need to prove herself Katherine joined the night fight club where after 3months, was already in some of the top fights and beaten the hell out of 2 of the boys who bet her up. This is also when she started properly training in Shota kan Karate and exercised often to “prepare” herself so if someone ever came up against her, she could fight him or her off. Through the fight club, Michael found her and got her training in a police force. From then she went through the stages quickly and has become one of the young homicide detectives working in the younger squad.
Character's short-term goals in life: To get to the top at whatever she has to and to be invincible with time to sleep
How does Character see herself? As someone who works with people at similar levels to her, but she is better and they cant challenge that. She sees herself as that she her job is the main of her life but because she “rocks” at it, she can take it with a laugh and a shine of confidence
How does Character believe she is perceived by others? By her peers, a brilliant smart cop who knows how it all works and is fun to talk to and you can joke with her. But by the ‘bad guys’ – don’t bother watching out cause I have already found you
How self-confident is the character? Very self-confident, but if someone beats her, she trains very hard in order to keep herself “safe” at the top.
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof?
What would most embarrass this character? Being beaten in a fight, wither the terms are fair or not.
Best Characteristics: She know how to do her job and is focused and ‘kick-ass’ when she needs to be. She will be you most loyal friend – if she believes you are worthy – and will keep a promise to the end.
Worst Characteristics: If you can beat her at something that she holds dear (fighting, maths) you will be her worst enemy until she smashes you at whatever you bet her at. Some come-back fight will usually end in something broken
Does the character have any prejudices? People who don’t live up to their word, but nothing else.

Additional Notes on This Character:

She doesn’t like acting without proper reasoning because she doesn’t want to become a “mindless” fighter who will take the opportunity for what ever reason.

Term 2: Brainstorm on Genre

So we are doing a Crime genre with the sub genres of action, thriller and a tint or horror
I am working with Emma, Alice and Laura and we have done a HUGE brainstorm on Settings, characters, props and costumes BUT here are some extras that I think we missed out

  • Rookie sidekick
  • Unknown police people who always die but you don't really care
  • POLICE BADGE

So I was having some ideas on a plot i can do that can have this in the time space of a 3-5 min clip and I was thinking of actually starting the film part way through the investigation..... And have it a 'cherub' like style where the cops are kids and there is some sort of organization etc.
